Facts of Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia

With the growth and development in medical science, it has become very easy to fight any hazardous disease. In olden times, many people died just because there were no medical treatments available for any long term and perilous disease. The syndrome like cancer had no medical cure.

Gradually the medical science developed, and now there is no stone left unturned to find out the healing for any ailment. Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia is an uncommon type of cancer.  Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia produces abnormally high lymphocytes, a subtype of white blood cells.

The disease is named after the physician Jan G. Waldenstrom. He was the first person to identify the symptoms of disease in the year 1944. Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia causes thickening of blood and various infections in the body. The exact causes are yet unknown for Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia.

Certain changes have been identified in the patient having Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia such as change in chromosome, changes due to chemicals and others. Those persons who already have effects of hepatitis, rickettsiosis and other virus are found developing the Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia very easily.

There are some risk factors that increase the chance of causing Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia:

1.  Gender: the ratio of male caught in Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia is more as compared to that of females.

2.  Age: those people who have passed the age of 50 have more chances of contracting Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia.

3.  Heredity: people having ancestors with Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia are at high risk.

It is very difficult to diagnose the Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia as it does not have exact symptoms. Moreover, the symptoms also differ from person to person. One can know the symptoms at a very stage of the disease when it has already paced in the body largely.

Some of the common indicators of Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia are weakness, fatigue, weight loss, and vomiting, visual problems, itching of hands, feet and many others. The most usual sign found in Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia is bleeding gums and nose.

Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia includes paraprotein or lgM protein that is created by cancer cells. This lgM protein produced makes disease to be more complicated by thickening the blood in the patient’s body. The thickening of blood in turn creates difficulty in circulation of blood in the body.

Initially there was no treatment available for Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia. Since 2009, there have been many medical enhancements done to cure Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia. Much research is carried out on a continuing basis to find out the exact medication for Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia
